Report a number that looks wrong
Correctness is the whole point of Taxtirement, so we want to hear about any number you doubt, even if it turns out to be right.
- Tap or click the number, then open Why? to see how it was calculated.
- Choose Report a number (on iPhone and iPad, it's in the … menu). It drafts an email in your mail app with the calculation, step by step.
- Read it, edit anything you like, and add what you expected and where that figure came from: a line on your tax return, a notice from Social Security or Medicare, or another tool.
- Send it. Nothing is sent unless you send it.
Or just write to support@taxtirement.com with the year, the number, your state and filing status, and what you expected.
We check each report against the primary source. If the app was wrong, we fix it, add a test that would have caught it, and record the fix in the change log. If the difference comes from an assumption or a simplification, we'll explain it.
Subscription and Family Sharing
- Free trial. Premium starts with a one-month free trial. It renews at $99.99 a year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- Cancel or change. Apple handles billing. On iPhone or iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. On Mac: App Store › your name › Account Settings › Subscriptions › Manage. In the app: Settings › Subscription › Manage subscription (iPhone and iPad).
- Refunds. Apple handles refunds: reportaproblem.apple.com.
- New device? In the app, go to Settings › Subscription › Restore purchases.
- Family Sharing. Premium is shared with the people in your Apple family group, once Family Sharing for purchases is on.
Your plan, iCloud and sharing with your spouse
- Where plans live. A plan is a document, like a Pages or Numbers file. Save it on your device or in iCloud Drive, and open it from the Files app or Finder.
- Sharing with your spouse. Share the plan through iCloud from the app. You both see the same plan, each with your own Apple account.
- Backups. We don't hold a copy of your plan, so we can't restore one. iCloud Drive and your device backups keep it safe.
- App lock. Turn Face ID, Touch ID or passcode lock on or off in Settings › Privacy.
Importing your 1040
- Take a photo of last year's Form 1040, or open the PDF. The text is read on your device.
- Check each number on the confirm screen. The app recomputes the return and shows whether its taxable Social Security, AGI, taxable income and tax match lines 6b, 11, 15 and 16. A difference usually means a misread number, so compare it with the form.
- Your name and Social Security number are ignored, and the image isn't kept.
Your data
We don't collect any. To delete your data, delete the plan file and the app. There's no account to close. If you've emailed us and want that deleted, ask and we will. Details are in the privacy policy.
Tax rules and updates
- Each tax year's federal, Medicare, Social Security and state amounts come with the app and are updated through the App Store as agencies publish them. Amounts not yet published are projected with each rule's own indexing method and marked as projected.
- Settings › What's calculated and how it's checked lists what the app covers and doesn't. The same text is on How we check our numbers.
- Taxtirement makes estimates for planning. It isn't investment, tax or legal advice, and we can't advise you on your situation. For decisions, use the app's PDF report with your own tax professional.
