Coming November 2026 ยท iPhone, iPad and Mac
Retirement taxes, explained. And double-checked.
Taxtirement is the retirement tax planner that shows its work. It projects every year's federal, state and Medicare costs for you and your spouse, compares Roth conversion and Social Security scenarios, explains every number with its source, and keeps it all on your own devices.
Free to try. Premium is $99.99 a year after a one-month free trial, with Family Sharing.
Every year of retirement taxes, before they happen
Enter your accounts, pensions and Social Security, or start from last year's Form 1040. Taxtirement works out each year to age 95, for both of you.
Year-by-year taxes
Federal and state income tax, Medicare premiums, required distributions and the taxable part of Social Security, for every year of the plan.
Roth conversion scenarios
Fill a bracket, stay under an IRMAA tier or the ACA cliff, or set your own amounts. See each scenario's estimated lifetime tax and after-tax estate side by side.
Medicare IRMAA, two years out
Medicare surcharges use income from two years earlier. See what this year's conversion does to your premiums two years from now.
RMDs and QCDs
Required minimum distributions from the IRS tables, including inherited IRAs, and qualified charitable distributions that lower the taxable amount.
Social Security for couples
Compare start ages for both spouses, including spousal and survivor benefits, and see how each choice changes the taxes around it.
The survivor years and your heirs
After the first death: single filing, narrower brackets, the IRMAA jump and the survivor's Social Security. The 10-year rule is worked out heir by heir, so "convert for the kids" gets a number.
This year's room
A home-screen widget shows how much room is left before the next bracket, IRMAA tier or ACA cliff, with reminders in November and December.
All 50 states and DC
Each state's own retirement income exclusions and treatment of Social Security, plus New York City and Maryland and Indiana county taxes. See your state's rules.
Start from your 1040
Take a photo of last year's Form 1040 or open the PDF. It's read on your device, and you confirm every number. Or start from a quick estimate and improve it later.
Shows its work
Every number explained. Every calculation checked.
Tap any number to see how it was worked out, line by line: the formula, the inputs, and the IRS, SSA, CMS or state rule it comes from. You can see which limit is binding: the top of a bracket, an IRMAA tier, the ACA cliff or the senior deduction phase-out.
- A second, independent calculation. A separate program, written from the same primary sources without seeing the app's code, has to agree to within $1 on thousands of random households, federal and every state.
- What the government prints. Every cell of the 2025 IRS Tax Table, and worked examples from IRS and SSA publications and from 41 states, DC and New York City.
- Open-source models. Compared with PolicyEngine and Open Social Security, with every difference traced to its cause.
- Your own return. Import last year's 1040 and the app recomputes it, so you can see it matches.
- In public. We publish what we check, and every correction goes in a change log.
Private by design
Your plan stays on your devices
No account. No server.
There's nothing to sign up for and no bank linking. Taxtirement has no server, and the app contains no networking code. We don't collect your data, so there's nothing of yours for us to lose.
On your devices and in your iCloud
Your plan is a file on your device or in your own iCloud Drive, shared with your spouse through iCloud if you choose. An app lock with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode is on by default.
Your 1040 is read on your device
Text recognition runs on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Only the numbers you confirm are kept. Your name and Social Security number are never used or saved, and the image isn't kept.

Questions
When can I get it?
Taxtirement is planned for the App Store in November 2026, for iPhone, iPad and Mac. This page will have the App Store link on launch day.
Is this financial advice?
No. Taxtirement makes estimates and lets you compare scenarios you choose. It isn't investment, tax or legal advice, and it never recommends investments or an allocation. Many people share the app's PDF report with their own tax professional.
How accurate is it?
The tax rules come from the published IRS, SSA, CMS and state documents, and every calculation is checked against an independent second implementation and the government's own examples. Here's what we check. The results are still estimates: they depend on what you enter and on assumptions about the future, like returns, inflation and tax law.
Where is my data stored? Can you see it?
Your plan lives on your devices and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud Drive. We can't see it. There's no account and no server, and the app has no networking code. We see something only if you email it to us.
Does it connect to my bank or brokerage?
No. You enter balances yourself, or import your 1040, Social Security statement or a brokerage CSV or OFX file, all read on your device.
Does it prepare or file my tax return?
No. It projects future years so you can plan. It doesn't prepare or file returns.
Does it work for one person, or only couples?
Both. It's built for couples, including the years after the first death, and it works just as well for a single or widowed person.
Which states does it cover?
All 50 states and DC, with each state's retirement income rules, plus New York City and Maryland and Indiana county taxes. See how your state taxes retirement income.
Why is Premium a subscription?
Tax rules change every year: federal brackets, Medicare premiums and IRMAA tiers, Social Security, and 51 sets of state rules. Each year's update is researched from the primary sources and checked before it ships.
What if a number looks wrong?
Please tell us. Open "Why?" on the number and choose "Report a number", or write to support@taxtirement.com. More on reporting a number.
